Thank you ever so much for the wranglers. I can only remember when! BUT THANK GOD I STILL REMEMBER, they say it is the first thing that goes, you know after the other, any way. Glad our Katherine is still running around.
Louie, my better half, your relative, got a laptop for his birthday, & we got a router spilter antenae thing, that according to the folks we bought it from a simple PLUG IT IN!
WELL, for 3 days now we have been trying to MESS with this thing & we finally got it to work on the laptop & this morning my computer was possessed! I can sympathise with anyone. The language alone in these 400 page manuels is cause for a nervous breakdown. You should be warned when they are in 6 languages & an excuse for English computer speech.
I unplugged all the stuff & went on line with NOOOOO problem. Thats my answer to problem solving.
Thank you too, for being one of the joys of genealogy, when you find a long lost cousin you can hold dear.
I don't remember if I told you that I found Pearl son of our Jonas who was the baby when their mother died on census.
Now this is a story, we were told the new step mother did not want the boys so Oscar & Pearl were SENT OUT. That's a mind boggler. You would of thought since this was a 3 or 4 year old her would have been cute & cuddley & HOW in the world do you through Kids out! I mean REALLY THrow them out.
The story was some German family took them in. The girls stayed until married I guess.
In 19oo Pearl was living with Jonas's sister, Sarah Matilda Gossman, in Effingham age 6. In 1910 there is a Pearl Harmon age 20 living with a family in Warren County Ill. Who Knows. In 1920 there is a Pearl Harmon, says he is divorced age 25 working as a hired hand with a family in Livingston County Ill. Oscar, his brother is in Texas where he was married. He came back to Illinoise for a short time & then back to Texas. I have spoken to his son, in Kaufman Texas about 10 years ago who his wife was good enough ,to kind of fill me in.
Pearl apparently came to visit Oscar & his wife in Texas & was very strict or shall we say abusive to his kids in front of them & I guess Oscar & his wife gave him an ultimatum while he was there as to his corporal punishment & what they would tolerate. He didn't come back.
Bertha, the other sister wound up getting stuck for the funeral bill on Jonas as he was declared insolvent. His wife went to live with Albert her son & family. This is Louie's grandparents. Alberta, Louie's aunt remebers her Mom & she were picking blackberries when , she, Alberta was sent back to the house to get another container & gradma was on the kitchen floor. A heart attack I assume. There was not a lot of love loss between daughter in law & mother in law. Not unusual !

When Mary Self married Jonas her mother deeded them 20 acres of land. When her daughter died she tried to sell this property again & wound up in court having to refund the guys money as , since Mary was deceased it automatically went to her heirs. Jonas stayed on this property till 1929. The taxes were not paid 7 it should have reverted back to the state. Now get this,
when Adam, son of Jonas died 1965 he deeded this SAME property to his church. Huge litagation ensued I have the papers, where all existing heirs of Jonas had to be notified & SOMEHOW since truely they would not have gotten but about a dollar apiece the property went to the church. Now, they either had to relinquish their rights & keep in mind the taxes were not paid in 1929 & it was establihed Jonas was insolvent in 1930's & Adam was not a blood relative to Mary Self. My mother in law help take care of Adam in his last weeks & he promised my mother in law & father in law the same property in a will. They had a case against the estate. My father in law was a really sweet guy & when it was all said & done he refused his dollar.
I actually went to find the attorney who handled this mess but he had passed away, lucky for him, because I wanted some kind of explanaton for this.
This family is a lot of fun, I know, I'm still in it, certainly not your run of the mill farmers. Louie has 5 brothers & a sister & there is never a dull moment. They switch off one to the other for disasters& dilemma's so when ever the phone rings IT IS NEWS.
Well. I have just babbled on & on.

Thank You! - Keep meaning to get back in the groove . . . Shoulda, woulda, coulda . . .Census - If they only knew how important they would be to future generations - Maybe they would have taken a little more care to make the correct entries, eh? Katherine (with a K)- was born in 1928 - therefore she was 1 1/2 and a daughter not a granddaughter. The Pearl listed on there is my dad - M not F - Atleast I think! He was born Pearl William - Supposedly had it changed in the service to William Pearl. But then again - I worked for Census 2000 - And yes I am sure I made a "couple" of mistakes - Don't tell big brother - The pay was pretty good - and I wouldn't want to have to pay it back.Have had this email open for awhile - called Katherine - (760) 249-6347 - She's fine - no more problems than the usual . . . Kids, husbands, doctors, dogs - She still hasn't figured out her new internet and email - She has a Macintosh - Our first and "best-est still" was a Macintosh - So I know what she is up against when it comes to service providers and an Apple ! The truth of the matter: If you want a computer that is fantastic as far as graphic - in other word a machine to get work done - get a Mac - If you want the internet - get a windoze!!!!!!!!!!!!It's funny - I feel like I know you so well - and I start typing away like I've known your forever - Enough said - I am EXTREMELY glad we ran into each other - Thank again - greatly appreciate you for you and anything you send my way!!!!!!!!!!!!! =;0)-T
